Greetings Sworn Officers,
The Beverly Hills Police Department is looking for two Patrol Sergeants to complete our command staff. One is an immediate hire and the other will be scheduled for hire after October 1, 2024. The two Patrol Sergeant positions are part of the command staff at the City of Beverly Hills which allows you a direct voice towards the administrative processes and patrol tactics within the organization.
Both Patrol Sergeant positions will be night shift with the primary function of supervising, teaching, and training young patrol staff. The secondary responsibility will be administrative review of incident reports, use of force reports, pursuit reviews, fleet reports, and first report of injuries, when necessary. Beyond that, you will be available for on-call overflow and traffic enforcement.
Our patrol officers and command staff are very excited about these positions as this will be one of the few times in Beverly Hills history to have assisting units for our patrol officers at night. These are 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off and a highly planned out schedule which allows for personal planning throughout the year.
Once we receive our two newly approved Chevrolet Silverado pickups, the Sergeants will have take-home-vehicles if residing within approximately 45 minutes of the city. In addition, within the last three years of my tenure, we have added a full Axon Body 4, Fleet 3, and Taser 7 package which lends to very convenient evidence storage methods, no burning discs at the end of your shift. We have obtained TMRS, a robust Report Management System with solid digital infrastructure. The council has just approved the largest pay increase in many years to help catch officers up to a more competitive salary. The new pay increase is also considerate upon TCOLE licensing levels, some certifications, field trainers, and college degrees, plus bilingual pay.
The city has taken big strides towards health and wellness by purchasing a significant Smith Machine, a heavy bag, and a row machine. The city has also provided an increased training budget, and all sergeants are expected to attend TPCA Developing Leaders & eventually attend Patrol Management training. We have established a solid baseline for Policy and Procedure using the TPCA Best Practices Policy as well as establishing directives to make sure the communication is sound and uniform.
In summary, these two positions would be best fit by third- or fourth-years officers who are eager to share their knowledge and be part of not only a team but a real part of an organization that is perfecting its craft each day. Both of these positions will be well balanced between administrative and street patrol functions which will allow for a significant amount of training for future career advancement.
Kindest Regards,
Kory Martin
Chief of Police
